CREDO #16

All Saints

The Church Is Older Than Us

The Church must keep returning to the gospel, and it also needs to remember the people who carried the faith across generations. James talks about why the saints still matter, even when Christians differ about asking for their prayers. Their stories do not replace Jesus or give us one pattern to copy. They show how grace, repentance, prayer, gentleness, and costly love can take shape in real lives—and remind us that we do not follow Christ alone or without a history.

Questions explored

Faith examined from lived experience.

  • What can Protestants learn from the saints while holding different convictions about their intercession?
  • How do the very different lives of Moses, Augustine, Monica, Benedict, Francis de Sales, and Maximilian Kolbe point us toward Christ?
  • Who has shown you what faithfulness looks like, and what can you learn from their life?
