He Wept Anyways
When Suffering Does Not End with Prayer
When suffering does not end, faith can start to sound like a demand to explain it away. In this episode James returns to Jesus at Lazarus’s tomb: to the Savior who knows the pain of death, lets himself weep, and does not turn grief into a lesson before standing beside those who mourn. The episode makes room to bring God anger and sorrow, and considers how care may arrive through people who stay with us.
Questions explored
Faith examined from lived experience.
- What can we bring to God when the suffering we prayed about continues?
- What do Jesus’ tears at Lazarus’s tomb tell us about God’s presence in grief?
- How might listening and staying beside someone become part of the care they need?
